04 Aug 09 Replace Traditional Lightbulbs with CFLs

Going green doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive–in fact, it can save money.  One of the vital first steps in making every home and office more environmentally friendly is replacing traditional incandescent light bulbs with compact florescent lighting.

CFL bulbs can last seven to ten years and use a fraction of the energy to provide the same light as incandescent bulbs.   This translates into  significant savings on energy bills, so significant that within a few short months, CFLs pay for themselves.

Improvements in the technology behind these energy-saving bulbs have progressed dramatically in the past ten years, resulting in no sacrifice on the consumer’s part in replacing incandescents.  CFLs now provide the same level of lighting, and are available in shapes and sizes that fit the lighting elements consumers already use.  Replacement is as easy as unscrewing the old bulb, and screwing in the new one.

And large retailers like Walmart have put their influence behind the CFL revolution as well, educating consumers and making this environmentally and financially sound product widely available and more affordable than ever.  Lighting manufacturers, such as General Electric, have been enthusiastically encouraged to fill consumer demand, and have responded with equal enthusiasm.
