There is not a woman alive who does not love shoes. Shoes are probably the most popular fashion accessory of all. Celebrities and successful women collect shoes with an almost obsessive passion. Oprah Winfrey confessed that she has a “thing’ for designer shoes and owns several hundred pairs. Celine Dion admitted to owning around 3,000 pairs of shoes! The singer confessed she just can’t stop buying designer footwear whenever she hits the shops.
Not to be outdone in the shoe department is infamous Imelda Marcos. Known around the world for her obsession with footwear, the widow of infamous Philippines dictator Ferdinand Marcos confessed to owning 3000 pairs. In 1999 the former Philippine first lady announced that she had replenished her shoe collection to 3,000 pairs, the same number she had abandoned at the presidential palace when her family fled into exile in Hawaii in 1986.
While most women wouldn’t dream of going to those lengths even if they had the money – or the closet space – everyone would agree that two or three pairs of exquisite designer shoes is essential to any girl’s wardrobe. Few fashion designers have risen so quickly and to such dizzy heights as Christian Louboutin. The maestro of ladies’ fashion footwear is revered by elegant women from Los Angeles to Paris and Monte Carlo. His inspiration came to him as a child when he spotted a sign of a stiletto heel at the Museum of Oceanic Art in Paris, warning women not to scratch the wooden floor with their high heeled shoes. It was an omen of great things to come. Louboutin spent his school years exhaustively reproducing sketches of stiletto shoes in his exercise books. He became obsessed with the idea of shoes as objects of beauty.

The Nike Legend and Air Force One

Since Nike re-released the Nike Dunk in 1998 the sneakers have gone on to become iconic classics. The newly released Nike brought out classic color combinations in both the Dunk High and Dunk Low models. Nike then took their designs further by collaborating with popular artists, designers, and athletes. These caught the imagination of a new generation of inner-city youth that quickly spread to rap and hip-hop artists. The limited-edition designs, especially, created a feeding frenzy among eager consumers.
Nike also cashed in on the resurgence of the skateboarding scene by introducing the Dunk SB (SB for Skate Boarding). The Dunk SB model featured a “Zoom Air” insole and an extra padded tongue designed for comfort and better skating performance. Some of the SB designs are limited editions, giving them instant street value with sneaker collectors. Limited Dunk SB designs fetch high prices online and some pairs increase in value by hundreds of dollars just hours after being snapped up in the stores.
However, the Dunk has not been the only sneaker legend created by the successful Nike brand. Air Jordan shoes wrote their own legend into the history books when they became the first sneakers to use the patented Nike Air Technology (The process utilizes pressurized gas encapsulated in polyurethane). Bruce Kilgore created the Nike Air Force 1 in 1982. The sneaker was originally named after the US president’s aircraft, and later Nike brought out the famous Air Jordan brand when it collaborated with famous basketball legend Michael Jordan.
