26 Sep 09 Try a New Career That Takes You Out of the Office, and Into the Courtroom

If you are looking for a new, exciting career you don’t have to look any further than the positions available working in the legal system. When most people think of this field, they automatically think of judges, lawyers, or bailiffs. But they miss some of the more common, but equally important, jobs that stand by the sidelines. Each one can offer a fantastic chance to get into the legal field for a successful, well paying, and interesting job.

The first of these positions is in legal transcription services. Have you ever sat in on a court case? You may have noticed that there is a man or woman sitting off to the side of the judges bench, typing everything that is said and done in shorthand, often on an old fashioned looking typewriter. This is to ensure that everything that happens in the courtroom is officially on the record, and everything is always put down. The only exception is when a judge orders something stricken off the record, usually because it is misleading, and may not be able to be interpreted out of context.

The next of these positions is in video depositions. Not only is everything written down when in a court case, but it is taped. This is usually done through a third party, who is hired by the state to come in and capture everything on camera for the records. It will go in with the transcript in order to provide further context to the proceedings, and to offer another accurate account of a case and trial.
